Kiel 3.0: Grand opening of the bus stop Botanischer Garten – now 32 fast charging points in the city

On July 18th, the official inauguration took place at the Botanical Garden, respectively the Christian- Albrechts-University (CAU), which can now also be operated as an electric bus stop. The Mayor of Kiel, Dr. Ulf Kämpfer (left), who has been committed to the pioneering project from the very beginning, was also present.

Kiel 3.0 is the third expansion stage, after which a total of 99 charging points will be installed in Kiel. There are already 32 fast charging points at eleven locations in the city, each with a charging capacity of 450 kW, making it possible to recharge 75 kWh of energy within 10 minutes. This allows to cover at least 40 km. The 75 kWh of energy is, by the way, much more than many smaller electric cars can charge in total.

The construction work at the Diedrichstraße depot is also well advanced. 43 charging points with 150 kW are being built there. The trusses and stations are already in place and cabling has begun.

The concept is a success! Kieler Verkehrsgesellschaft has been operating fully electric buses since September 2020. With the current 70 vehicles, the 10-million-kilometer mark was broken at the beginning of April 2024, saving 11,000 t of CO2.

Our congratulations!

Dr. Ulf Kämpfer (Mayor of Kiel), Andreas Schulz (Manager KVG), Jascha Lackner (NOW GmbH), Dr. Uwe Pfründer (Head of Facility Management CAU)
